Staff welcome customers to Decathlon’s first Jeddah store

Staff at Decathlon line the aisles at the company’s first store in Jeddah to welcome customers through the doors on opening day.

The global sports and leisure chain, which includes the Caperlan fishing brand among its properties, has opened the store in collaboration with Alhokair Fashion, Saudi’s largest fashion retail business. The 3,360 square metre store is located in Jeddah’s Mall of Arabia. Jeddah, Saudi’s second largest city, is located on the Red Sea 85km from Mecca.

Alhokair says it is targeting 30 additional stores throughout Saudi as part of a 10-year franchise agreement.

“Decathlon is the first of multiple brands in our franchise pipeline,” said a spokesman for Alhokair. “This agreement marks the company’s commitment to growing its portfolio.”

Decathlon, headquartered in France, sells more than 80 in-house brands in 1,600 stores across 69 countries. It reported revenues of $13.4 billion last year.

Alhokair has more than 1,900 shops in 100 shopping malls in 13 countries.
