Angling International’s Canadian correspondent, Italo Labignan, has collaborated on the design of a new spinning reel.
The accomplished angler and host of the Sportfishing TV series of shows partnered on the project with Benjamin Reubeni, owner of Abbecan Industries, which was already producing BER centre-pin reels. The BER Boom from the Canadian company is said to be a unique and innovative spinning reel. Labignan (pictured), who has designed lures, rods and other fishing items for many multi-national companies in the past, told Angling International: “Many spinning reels on the market deteriorate quickly and are prone to producing tangled fishing lines. They are not saltwater worthy.
“We have identified the specific and typical shortfalls which include low quality components, poor line spool design, bail spring failure and inadequate water venting. We have overcome those with better components and a re-engineered line spool design to reduce tangles to offer anglers increased casting distance. We have also eliminated bail spring and significantly added ventilation to the line spool. Nickel-plated and zinc nickel plated spool finishes protect against saltwater corrosion.”
