Dick’s Sporting Goods, the US omni-channel sports retailer with a significant share in the fishing tackle market, is forecasting another great year after a record-breaking 2020.

The 800-store chain posted a 9.5% sales growth to $9.58 billion for the full fiscal year ended January 30th, 2021. The company’s net income for the year soared to $530.25 million, compared to $297.5 million last year.

“We have never had a year quite like 2020,” said Ed Stack, Executive Chairman and Chief Merchandising Officer. “We were challenged in numerous ways, as were so many others, but we not only survived – we thrived, delivering record-setting sales and earnings.”

Looking ahead to the rest of this year, President and CEO Lauren Hobart said: “The strength of our diverse category portfolio, technology capabilities and advanced omni-channel execution helped us capitalise on the favourable shifts in consumer demand across outdoor activities, golf, home fitness and active lifestyle.

“As we enter 2021, our business has so much momentum, and we have been pleased with our start to the year. Our focus in 2021 will centre around enhancing our existing strategies to accelerate our core and enable long-term growth.”

Dick’s has stores in 47 states and is the biggest of the big box chains excluding Bass Pro/Cabela’s.
