Tackle shops in Denmark are taking part in an initiative designed to ensure that everyone in the country has the opportunity to try their hand at fishing.
A project launched by LystfiskerDanmark – the body which implements the country’s National Angling Strategy – is collaborating with 30 stores and offering free rental of fishing gear for 14 days.
For a DKK 300 refundable deposit, would-be anglers can borrow a seven-foot Abu Garcia IMPACT fishing rod and reel, which is suitable for fishing for perch, hornfish, herring and mackerel. Tips and techniques on how to catch these species are highlighted on the LystfiskerDanmark website and YouTube channel.
LystfiskerDanmark added that terminal tackle is not included. It said that tackle shops are on hand to help and ensure a good fishing experience. “They have a good knowledge of the local fishing locations to help make the most of the fishing opportunities.”
