US fly brand RIO Products comes straight to the point about its new Elite Tarpon line. “It’s the very best tarpon line on the market,” says the Washington State company.
RIO’s confidence in its claim comes from an impressive list of features that is hard to argue with. For a start, it incorporates RIO’s SlickCast coating, highly-acclaimed for producing the least amount of friction ever measured on a fly line. It also has RIO’s DirectCore technology which, says the company, stretches 30% less than other tropical cores, is exceptionally easy to uncoil, lies straight on the water and yet retains the stiffness needed to cast in hot conditions.
And there’s more. RIO’s triple colour marking system makes it easy to gauge distances and load, while printed line markings allow for quick identification. A front welded loop makes for fast, Spey-specific rigging while there is a back welded loop at the end of the line for fast rigging to backing.
Elite Tarpon is designed with short powerful front tapers to effortlessly cast large flies and a long back taper for stable casting at range and quick pick-ups. “Don’t be fooled by the fact that it was announced on April 1st. This line really is magnificent,” said RIO Brand Manager Simon Gawesworth.
