Tackle wholesaler moves into publishing with Russian fly magazine

Share

Gennady Zharkov, owner of the Lotta Olt wholesale tackle company in Russia, has moved into publishing with the purchase of NAKHLYST, the country’s only fly fishing magazine.

A pioneer of fly fishing in Russia in the late 1980s and active in the industry for almost 25 years, Zharkov has established a publishing house called Fly Fishing Media, which will relaunch the magazine and publish it four times a year.

“My goal is to move the magazine to another level,” said Zharkov, who will continue to run his wholesale business in Moscow. “The Russian fly fishing field has been developing rapidly over the past two decades and I have a strong desire to make it more popular.

“I believe I understand the demands of progressive Russian fly fishermen for good, professionally-prepared information on a wide range of topics.”

NAKHLYST will be produced in both print and digital versions and will promote catch-and-release and environmental projects, as well as covering equipment and fly fishing destinations.

It recently announced cooperation with European fly fishing magazine H20 to help develop an international presence and to extend advertising options. It is now available in Appstore and Google Play digital app markets.

Zharkov is a long-time member of the European Fishing Tackle Trade Association (EFTTA) Board and is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Russian Salmon Association. He is now the owner of one of only two remaining fishing magazines in Russia.
