Top NZ tackle chain helps owner to milestone $700m sales performance

Share

The group that owns one of New Zealand’s major suppliers of fishing tackle reached a $700m sales milestone for the first time in its history for the year ended January 31.

And the Briscoe Group’s Rebel Sport outdoor chain was hailed for its contribution to the success of its parent company for its 17.4% increase in sales in the fourth quarter and an 8.45% growth for the year overall.

Total group unaudited fourth quarter sales were up 18.29% to $248.1m to deliver $701.8m for the year.

Group Managing Director, Rod Duke, said: “The group has continued to perform significantly ahead of last year through the final quarter of the year, which has resulted in group sales surpassing $700m for the first time. That is a fantastic milestone to achieve, particularly in a year with so much uncertainty and upheaval. Both the Sporting goods and Homewares segments performed impressively throughout the final quarter.

“Black Friday has clearly cemented itself as the most significant promotion in the retail calendar. The group recorded its biggest ever sales day, surpassing the previous event by 19%.

“Our online business continues to produce excellent sales growth, finishing the year 79.65% up on 2019 and representing just under 19% of total group sales.

“The accelerated roll-out of Click-and-Collect across the entire network was a significant achievement by the team and is proving extremely popular.”

Duke added that he expected profit after tax for the year just ended to be in excess of $70m.
